2018 Volvo XC60

However, credit to its designers, after the automaker debuted the XC60 eight years ago, the model has managed to curve a successful niche for itself in the highly competitive SUV segment. This is courtesy of its attractive exterior design and good interior packaging. However, since its initial debut it has only undergone a single upgrade back in 2013. After a long wait, finally, the automaker is planning a more comprehensive overhaul for the 2018 model year. Our spy photographers have already caught the second-generation Volvo XC60 making testing runs wrapped in playschool-like plastic body cladding. The new 2018 Volvo XC60 will use the automaker’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA).

Like with the XC90, the smaller XC60 is going to use Volvo’s new modular platform which should be quite interesting to see on a smaller car. Keeping true to their tradition, everything will be new for the XC60 starting from its design all the way to its engines. The new platform also means that the car will get more efficient, likely better to drive as well as slightly larger.

The XC60 has been released in 2008 and it did not change all that much since then. The current car is still based on their P3 platform which has been around for more than a decade at this point. Because it can’t really compete with the current generation of crossovers in terms of performance, a new model will be released soon enough. The 2018 Volvo XC60 will be based on the same platform as the larger XC90. The SPA modular architecture will allow Volvo to use the same engines and a similar running gear but with a new design.

2018 Volvo XC60 Changes

The Volvo XC60 is showing its age and is due for a replacement. The New Volvo XC60 2018 will be replacing the outgoing model. It is based on the company’s SPA platform. The new XC60 was also spotted on test in Amsterdam. After the XC90, this is the second largest SUV in the Volvo fleet.

2018 Volvo XC60 Specs

Everyone very much hope at the 2018 Volvo XC60 release is better than the previous version. So we’ll review the interior, exterior and some other features of the new car in 2018 Volvo XC60. Hopefully review the specifications of this car, can help you in choosing your dream car.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 will be very similar to that of its larger sibling. This has been the case with its rivals as well so it is not as surprising. The big surprise comes on the outside though. Like we said, Volvo is planning a coupe-like crossover which is not as wide spread as some people said. This would allow them to secure a rather big part of the market for themselves and it would allow the XC60 to be as successful as it could. Also, despite the fact it will be inspired by a coupe, from most spy shots it seems that Volvo is not sacrificing the interior of the car for looks. This would be the perfect trade-off so let’s hope things will not change for the production model.

Not much can be noticed about the exterior design. The test mules seem to be wearing thick camouflage. This makes it difficult to understand what is underneath the skin. The Thor hammer inspired LED headlamps will come on the XC60. Then, there will be the oblong grille that is a combination through out the Volvo range. We reckon, the design will be a lot more sporty and aggressive.

2018 Volvo XC60 Review

Due to the heavy camouflage, we can tell little about the model’s exterior styling. According to rumors and from the camouflage photos in our possession, it is clear that the XC60 front end is based on that of the XC90. As such, the model will likely have a shiny chrome grille flanked by “Thor’s hammer” headlights. Its bumper, however looks placed lower and looks more aggressive. The flanks will likely resemble the XC90.

Expect the SUV to feature premium leather upholstery with a premium wood trim. The model will be well equipped with all the latest technologies in the industry. Among the likely features, include a 12.3-inch digital display, surround-view camera and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Passengers will enjoy awesome natural lighting from the model’s slide-open panoramic roof.

Volvo’s interiors have been one of the best in its segment and XC60 won’t be any different. The dashoard will be similar to the XC90. This will make it look appealing and the SUV will be feature loaded as well. This will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a large touchscreen infotainment system, Volvo’s Pilot Assist II, the semi-autonomous system could also make its way into the XC60. It will also feature an automatic boot opening like the XC90.

2018 Volvo XC60 Engine

It is still months away before the on sale release of the Volvo XC60. Although Volvo has not officially released details of the drive-trains that will power the model, we have credible reports on the same. For the base T5, the automaker will likely feature the current 2.0 L, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The XC60 will likely be the first model to get Volvo’s small-capacity petrol. The 1.5-litre, three-cylinder is said to produce 150hp and you would imagine be capable of returning fuel economy of more than 50mpg. Also set to be included in the line-up is Volvo’s excellent D4 diesel one of the best of its kind currently on the market, in the XC60 it could return more than 65mpg and offer decent performance.

Too early to predict anything, but the XC90’s 245bhp (350Nm/258lb-ft) 2.0-litre petrol engine will be made available on the XC60. A plug-in hybrid is too on the cards. For Europe a 2.0-litre diesel is also being considered. It is believed that XC60 will mark the entry of three-cylinder engines. This will be the first large SUV to get such a small engine. There will be front-wheel and all-wheel drive options on this Volvo.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is more than likely going to feature the same engines currently found on the XC90. This means that a base 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 with 245 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque will be standard. A turbo and supercharged version of the same engine with 320 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque will be the option. A 2 liter diesel will also be available with 190 or 225 horsepower. It still is unclear though if this one will hit the US shores as well. The top end hybrid engine from the XC90 might also be installed on the XC60. However, this might get the Polestar badge especially since it will develop 400 horsepower.
