2018 Mercedes AMG E63 Review

With the release of the new E-Class, Mercedes also released the new 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 and AMG S. Both versions sport an updated engine with a lot of other upgrades over the regular car. However, none of them has the engine everyone expected but more on that later. The car is based on Mercedes’ brand new platform, and it sports plenty of weight saving features.

It´s the most powerful E-Class of all time. The E63 S takes the innovative technology of the 2017 E-Class – from Intelligent Drive safety features to the semi-automated DRIVE PILOT – and combines it with the pure force of Mercedes-AMG.

Sporting a handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine, the all-new E63 takes performance and responsiveness to the extreme. That means 603 hp, a maximum torque of 627 lb-ft,* and a blistering 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds**. Plus, the AMG cylinder deactivation system lowers fuel consumption and emissions, so none of that power goes to waste.

It is longer than the previous model, and it also sports a longer wheelbase. So far Mercedes hasn’t released a long wheelbase version, and it doesn’t look like they are going to release one anytime soon. The AMG also received a rather interesting engine and plenty of another kit to make it as interesting as it gets.

Everyone very much hope at the 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 release is better than the previous version. So we’ll review the interior, exterior and some other features of the new car in 2018 Mercedes AMG E63. Hopefully review the specifications of this car, can help you in choosing your dream car.

There is no question about the fact the 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 is a classy muscle car. With all that extra performance they didn’t want it to look too out of place. In fact, the changes have been kept to a minimum over a base car, at least for an untrained eye. There are subtly flared wheel arches in the front, larger air intakes that house multiple radiators and cooling ducts for its brakes as well as a new grille. The hood has a subtle bulge while the headlights are unique. In the back, the AMG features a rather subdued quad-exhaust system, a hidden diffuser and that’s about it. The rest of the car is quite restrained which is where the cool factor comes in. The E63 is one of the most unassuming cars in its class, and that is always a great thing, especially with a $100,000 high-performance sedan.

No surprise here. The 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 features all the kit we expected and more. It features a three-spoke aluminum steering wheel wrapped in leather. The dashboard, center stack, the front seats’ inserts as well as the rear buttons are all covered in real aluminum. Over a regular E-Class, it features the unique steering wheel, sports Recaro front seats and all the usual extras as standard. The dual 12-inch screens are offered on the base AMG. The only real option worth mentioning are the Recaro seats which are only available as a pair extra on both AMG models.

A restyled exterior nods at the muscle within. The entire front end is new, with wider fenders providing shelter to the massive wheels and tires. (The E63 S has 265/35ZR-20 front and 295/30ZR-20 rear performance rubber.) Since the E63 comes only with the E-class’s Sport grille—too bad, as we’d love to have an E63 with the “Luxury” look’s stand-up hood ornament—the designers were able to restyle the hood. The car also is equipped with a rear spoiler that looks like an alien object, its ends sticking out like horns, but it’s shaped that way to minimize rear-axle lift. The AMG-trademark quadruple exhaust pipes poke out from beneath the rear bumper.

2018 Mercedes AMG E63 Engine

The older car had a 5.5 liter V8 offering more than enough power for its class. However, this wasn’t really up to date, so Mercedes had to do something about it. This means the 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 features a smaller 4 liter AMG-built twin-turbocharged V8. This is a very similar unit to that found in the AMG GT. However, in the E-Class, it now makes 563 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque which is actually more than pretty much any other car sporting this engine.

The most serious take on the impressive new Mercedes-Benz E-class has just been unveiled: the bonkers E63 and E63 S, the V-8–powered AMG version that slots above the six-cylinder E43. Motivated by AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 and equipped with its own chassis calibrations, the E63 is the true high-performance model, and it seems poised to compete in the supercar realm.

Thanks to it the car will get to 62 MPH from a standing start in just 3.5 seconds with a limited top speed of 155 MPH. The higher end AMG S E63 bumps the output to 604 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. This is on par with the best in its class. With it, the car will accelerate to 62 MPH in just 3.3 seconds with a limited top speed of 186 MPH. The performance has been achieved thanks to an all new nine-speed automatic which sends the power to all four wheels. The new 4Matic+ system has a complex torque vectoring system which can send as much as 100% of the torque to the rear wheels. Unfortunately, a rear wheel drive model only is not going to be available anytime soon.

The 4.0-liter V-8 for the first time is fitted with a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers, resulting in 563 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque in the basic, non-S model. The sprint from zero to 60 mph takes a mere 3.4 seconds, according to Mercedes, and top speed is limited to 155 mph. In the E63 S, engine output reaches a new high of 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft, the latter delivered on a plateau that stretches from 2500 to 4500 rpm. The S reaches 60 mph in a factory-estimated 3.3 seconds, with its top speed capped at 186 mph.
