2018 Lincoln Navigator Changes

lmost one year after the New York debut of the wild Lincoln Navigator Concept, the automaker unveiled the all-new Navigator at the 2017 New York auto show. The Lincoln Navigator is redesigned from the ground up for 2018, wearing a fresh new face and stunning interior lifted from the brand-leading Continental. Moving away from the outgoing Navigator’s dated styling, the new three-row SUV is the third model in Lincoln’s lineup to incorporate the Conti’s design language.

The third generation of the Navigator has been around for more than a decade at this point. Luckily not that long ago Lincoln showcased the new Navigator. The concept managed to impress a lot of people with its futuristic design and over the top gull-wing doors. Well, the production version of the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator has been revealed a few weeks back, and it is a very impressive looking car. Despite that, it still received plenty of criticism for being a bit too bold, but that’s not a bad thing, especially in a class where most other cars look mostly the same. The new Navigator is using all new technologies, it gets a new engine and offers a far more comprehensive list of features than its predecessor. Thanks to that it should allow Lincoln to become a worldwide premium car manufacturer.

Two years ago, we staged a hotly contested Big Test of the six biggest, most luxurious SUVs on the market. We liked the Lincoln Navigator’s powertrain and all-around utility, but we found the luxury lacking. Regardless of anything else that’s changed since then, we won’t be able to say the same about the all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator.

The Navigator’s SYNC 3 system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, accessible on the sizable center screen. Don’t worry, audiophiles Lincoln’s popular 20-speaker Revel sound system is available on some of the higher trim levels. Rear passengers aren’t left out, either. Along with six USB ports scattered around the cabin, anyone with an Android device and stream media onto the optional rear-seat infotainment screens.

2018 Lincoln Navigator Release Date

The new 2018 Navigator saw its introduction at New York Auto Show. It impressed without a doubt, but two questions remained. When will it become available for purchase, and at what price? The US automaker announced that the production of this vehicle would start in September. That goes hand in hand with the information (mostly rumors) that we will see all-new Navigator before the year ends.

As you approach, the Lincoln badge in the grille lights up, the LED running lights and taillights activate in sequence, the welcome mat puddle lamp illuminates the ground below the front doors, lights behind the door handles come on, the interior lights go on in sequence, and the power running boards (except on the base model) deploy. Even the seat belt buckles have LEDs embedded in them.

2018 Lincoln Navigator Specs

Everyone very much hope at the 2018 Lincoln Navigator release is better than the previous version. So we’ll review the interior, exterior and some other features of the new car in 2018 Lincoln Navigator. Hopefully review the specifications of this car, can help you in choosing your dream car.

The 2018 Lincoln Navigator has nothing in common with its predecessor, and that’s great. Even though it is based on a truck, the driving position is far lower than expected. Also, the center stack offers a minimal amount of buttons with only the infotainment screen, HVAC vents and climate controls being installed there. The center console is quite wide and features a few more buttons, but it still is very clean in design. The doors, dashboard, and seats come covered with premium leather while the higher end models will receive real aluminum and wood inserts.

In addition to the usual radio sources, the Navigator also accepts inputs from your phone, either via the USB or Bluetooth, and supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Second-row passengers even get their own audio controls. They can also be hooked up with an optional entertainment system, which mounts 10.0-inch screens to the backs of the front seats. The screens can be fed from SD, HDMI, and quick-charging 2.5-amp USB ports, or wirelessly from your Android phone, and can stream different content on each screen. If you’ve got Slingbox at home, you can even watch live TV. The Navigator also comes with an onboard Wi-Fi hot spot if you’d prefer to be online.

However, the design between the two is not that different. Both of them look nearly identical to the original concept which is quite impressive. In the front, the 2018 Lincoln Navigator gets a massive chrome grille similar to that of the Continental. The headlights wrap around the fenders while the wheels are smaller versions of those found on the concept. The design is still quite bulky, but it looks a lot more polished than its predecessor. The blacked out B, C and D pillars make it seem lower than it really is while the abrupt rear end makes it look like a true SUV. As standard, it will come with motorized side-steps, chrome accents, and 20-inch rims. Lincoln also added a brand new trim level with the Black Label. This is set to become one of the most expensive Lincolns to date, so expect it to look quite impressive.

Because the car is based on a body on frame design, it means it can tow considerably more than some of its European rivals. On top of that, the Navigator gets the all aluminum body Ford extensively refined. However, while it is mostly made out of aluminum, the car is with up to 300 pounds heavier than its predecessor. How is this possible? Well, it also gets considerably more gear than before which accounts for the massive weight gain. As standard, the 2018 Lincoln Navigator is going to receive an air-ride system with an auto-leveling feature. The higher end models will get a more complex system which will allow the car to increase its ground clearance.

Up front, Lincoln’s heated and cooled 30-way power seats with memory settings are standard for both occupants and feature massage functions, and the second row can be had as a three-passenger bench or two captain’s chairs. Either way, the second row gets its own climate controls, and the seats can tilt and slide even with a baby seat installed for third-row access. Back there, the only option is a 60/40 split bench with three seats, but the two sides power recline independently (Lincoln claims best-in-class second- and third-row legroom). All three rows have two USB ports and one 12-volt port (plus a fourth in the cargo area), and there’s a 110-volt outlet in the second row. A panoramic sunroof lets everyone feel the sun on their face.

Fire up the engine, and you have six driving modes to choose from, each of which reconfigures the 12.0-inch all-digital dash cluster. (You can reconfigure it as you like, too.) Normal is the default, Conserve means eco, and Excite means sport. Slippery handles rain, ice, and dirt roads, and Deep Conditions handles deep snow, sand, and mud. Slow Climb locks the rear differential for ascending steep hills off-road. The computer recognizes when a trailer’s been attached and automatically goes into a towing mode. All modes make changes to the throttle mapping, shift points, CCD active dampers, and stability control.

2018 Lincoln Navigator Engine

Underneath the fancy new skin beats a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6, returning 450 hp and a tremendous 510 lb-ft of torque. This substantial power is managed by Ford’s new ten-speed automatic transmission. No word yet on if the SUV is rear- or all-wheel-drive, but it’s safe to assume both drivetrain configurations will be available.

It has been confirmed that the 2018 Lincoln Navigator will boast a 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 gas engine. Even though at first glance it might seem identical to the older model, it really isn’t. This is an entirely new engine where only the displacement is the same as before. Thanks to that it can offer up to 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque which is nearly just as much as the Raptor. Thanks to the massive increase in power and its new ten speed automatic, the Navigator should be considerably faster than its predecessor. The fuel consumption will likely remain the same as before which means it will remain one of the least efficient cars in its class.
