The Rio is one of the better-equipped subcompacts on the market which offers great value for money. The 2018 Kia Rio has already been showcased by them in hatchback form and it will be officially released at the Paris Auto Show.

The Kia Rio finally gets a much overdue redesign for the 2018 model year. The updated car includes a more mature exterior, a more spacious cabin, new safety features, and an updated powertrain.

The 2018 Rio’s looks will be completely new on both the sedan and hatchback. Both will grow in length by 0.6 inches, as the sedan will be 172.6 inches long and the hatchback will be 160 inches long. Both models also sit on a 0.4-inch-longer wheelbase, which measures 101.6 inches long.

2018 Kia Rio Specs

Everyone very much hope at the 2018 Kia Rio release is better than the previous version. So we’ll review the interior, exterior and some other features of the new car in 2018 Kia Rio. Hopefully review the specifications of this car, can help you in choosing your dream car.

Here Kia Rio 2018 did their best in order to depart themselves from the competition, and we have to say that they did it quite well. The dashboard features a rather minimalistic design with a curvy look to it. The steering wheel is really nicely proportioned while the red glow of the buttons and instrument cluster do give it a sporty feel. The only real grief here would have to be the infotainment system. This pops out from the dashboard and doesn’t really fit the lines of the interior.

The new Rio will continue with a standard six-speed manual and an optional six-speed automatic transmission. While the decreased power is not a huge selling point, we could increased fuel economy from the new Rio the current Rio gets up to 27 miles per gallon city, 36 highway, and 31 combined.

Thanks to the larger footprint and wheelbase, the Rio’s interior will be roomier for rear-seat riders, as both styles have an extra 2.4 inches of rear leg room. In terms of cargo room, the sedan will remain the same at 13.7 cubic feet, but the hatchback will see its capacity with the seats up grow by 2.4 cubic feet (17.4 cubic feet) and its max capacity fall by a shocking 17 cubic feet to 32.8 cubes.

Compared with its predecessor, the Rio has become a serious car maybe by a touch too much. The outgoing hatch which Kia calls the Rio 5-Door is one of the funkier designs in its class, with an aggressive body-side line and a stance a bit like a concept car’s. The new model looks staid by comparison, with an upright front end and a rather prosaic shoulder line. The plastic strip between the headlights is painted black, simulating a conventional grille opening, and the side mirrors, which used to be mounted on the door, have moved to the A-pillar. We suspect, though, that most customers will appreciate the utterly conservative look of the new Rio. A lamentably low number of customers in this segment buy their car as a design statement (although to be fair, it’s not as if there have been many stunners from which to choose).

Perhaps the best thing about driving any car one doesn’t own is the ability to connect one’s phone to it, so a Bluetooth connection to a six-speaker satellite radio equipped stereo is offered. Top EX models get standard UVO3 telematics, which includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen and full Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration these last are still fairly rare in the subcompact segment. Speaking of trim levels, there are three: LX, S, and EX.

The current model of the Rio is a rather interesting car to look at with its big headlights and perky lines. The new 2018 Kia Rio, on the other hand, has grown up quite a bit over the previous generation. For starters, it now looks completely different and we would also have to say, quite a bit better. Kia decided to go for a more European look, similar to what VW or Ford have been doing with their latest offerings. In the front it features a much larger intake in the bumper and two vertical fog lights housings. The headlights are swept back and they are now a lot slimmer than before. The grille also is now a lot more similar to what is available on the Optima. The back continues the design scheme with the influences from the Optima while from the profile it could easily be mistaken with a Polo.

2018 Kia Rio Engine

The 2018 Rio will come with some new tech too. These updated goodies will include a new available 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Powering the Rio will be a reworked 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that will deliver 130 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque. This is a drop in power from the current model by 8 hp and 4 lb-ft.

So far it still is unknown what engines the 2018 Kia Rio will use. However, considering their latest Cee’d, it is safe to assume that the Rio will use a very similar setup. At least in Europe, the car is expected to get a 1 liter turbocharged inline three petrol engine with as much as 110 horsepower and 171 Nm of torque. The 1.8 liter naturally aspirated inline four which is fitted to the US market model might be carried over relatively unchanged.

We drove cars powered by three different engines: an 89-hp turbo-diesel 1.4-liter inline-four, a 99-hp turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder, and a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter four good for 83 ponies. Each engine was mated to a crisp-shifting manual transmission, and all left a thoroughly favorable impression. (We’re not sad that we didn’t sample the four-speed automatic that Europeans are offered.) These engines are zippy, and they sound somewhat sporty even the entry-level 1.2.

However, Kia might also go on another route and release the Rio with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. This is known for being able to make over 200 horsepower in some applications. The base US market model could easily do with 140 to 150 horsepower, quite a bit more torque than the older 1.8-liter engine as well as better fuel efficiency. A GT version has also been rumored for some time. Even though it is not official, an unnamed Kia insider did say that the Rio is the next in line. This could use the 1.6-liter engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox while having an output close to 200 horsepower.
