2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Concept

The Hellcat is known to be the most powerful muscle car currently on sale. With 707 horsepower it can outrun most other cars on the road all while keeping its passengers comfortable. Many thought the Hellcat would be the final form of the Charger and Challenger. However, it seems that this is not the case.

The news on the 2018 Dodge Challenger is the outrageous 808-hp dragstrip brute, the Challenger SRT Demon, certified by the National Hot Rod Association as the quickest quarter-mile production in the world. The Demon is capable of producing 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque on high-octane race fuel.

Last year the first spy shots of what seemed to be a wide-body Challenger started to surface. Later the car has been confirmed to be the upcoming 2018 Dodge Demon, an improved Hellcat aimed at drag strips. Since two months ago Dodge started to reveal more and more information about this future model. So far it seems to be quite impressive, but it is not the car everyone expected it to be.

In a First Test review of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, we loved the whine from the engine bay and said, “The supercharger whine can double as an air raid siren.” The Hellcat is a burnout machine: “Honestly, if big smoky burnouts are your top car-buying priority, stop researching. The Hellcat creates stinky, juvenile white clouds better than any other new car.”

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Release

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Specs

Everyone very much hope at the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon release is better than the previous version. So we’ll review the interior, exterior and some other features of the new car in 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Hopefully review the specifications of this car, can help you in choosing your dream car.

For starters, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is going to be quite a bit more aggressive than the Hellcat. Considering the original is not really a tame car, the Demon will definitely be one of the most aggressive-looking cars around. Over the regular Hellcat, the Demon boasts two air intakes where the inner headlights would be. It also seems to have more surface area to its grilles which could suggest a beefier radiator. The hood features a more prominent bulge as well as what seems to be a larger hood scoop than on the regular Hellcat. The largest change though has to be the fender flares. The Demon is wider thanks to the addition of body colored wider wheel arches. These are there not just for looks. The car does feature wider than usual tires. Unfortunately, Dodge hasn’t specified how wide the tires are, but they seem to be of a similar compound, and thread, to those found on the top end Viper. So far not much has been revealed about the cabin. Even so, it seems not much is going to change over the regular model.

The 2018 Dodge Challenger will likely come with a choice of the previous four engine options along with the addition of the new Demon supercharged engine. The V-6 and Demon engines can only be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the rest of the engine options have an available six-speed manual. Power is routed to rear wheels with the exception of the new-for-2017 all-wheel-drive GT model. Once we have official info on the rest of the non-Demon 2018 Challenger lineup, we’ll update this space.

Well, at first most thought the Demon was going to be an all wheel drive Hellcat. The rumors started due to its wide body design and square stance tires. Both of these have been previously used on the original all wheel drive Challenger. From what Dodge released so far, the Demon seems to be an improved Hellcat with possibly more power and more gear installed under its skin. Instead of allowing it to corner faster it seems most upgrades are meant to make it faster through a quarter mile. Up until this point, they haven’t showcased the price, but there is no doubt about the fact the car will be more expensive than the regular model.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Engine

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is built to be an elite performance machine. That’s why it’s powered by a Supercharged 6.2L HEMI SRT Demon V8 engine and armed with a functional Air-Grabber hood scoop and Torque Reserve Launch System.

It’s hard to put in perspective just how nuts this beast is, but we’ll try: Designed explicitly for drag racing, the Demon is the first street-legal production car that can lift its front wheels off the ground under hard acceleration. It has 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque. It’ll hit 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, 100 mph in 5.1 seconds and blitz the quarter-mile lights in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph.

Engine and Transmission: supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 – eight-speed automatic
Power: 808 hp/717 lb-ft (91-octane gas), 840 hp/770 lb-ft (100-plus high-octane race fuel)

Equipped with only a driver’s seat, the new SRT Demon is built for the dragstrip. Even so, the front passenger and rear seats can be purchased for $1 each. The Demon’s wheels are 18 by 11 inches with Demon-branded 315-40R18 Nitto street-legal drag radials (on all four corners) with NTO 5R compound. Owners can order a personalized Demon crate with the buyer’s name, VIN, and serial number. The crate can fit in the trunk and contains narrow front runner aluminum drag wheels for track use, tools, jacks, and performance parts like the powertrain control module that allows the engine to operate on high-octane race fuel. It’s the first factory production car with Drag mode suspension tuning, a Drag mode assist that helps prevent wheel hop, and the largest functional hood scoop on a production car at 42.5 square inches. On a prepared drag strip surface, Dodge claims the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon can hit 60 mph in 2.1 seconds, a 100 mph 5.1, and reaches the quarter mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph (making it illegal to race on a track without a roll cage, not offered by Dodge).

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will feature quite a few more technologies to help it go fast. For starters, it is going to be Dodge’s first production car to feature some new drag technologies. It will offer a brake-free launch system which will increase launch boost pressure and it will provide considerably more launch torque than otherwise. This will use a transmission brake that will allow the driver to keep its feet off the brake. The system will be usable via the steering-mounted paddle shifters, so the reaction time should improve by up to 30%. However, there is a catch. This system would only work with the usual eight-speed automatic and be considering they announced it as a core feature it basically means the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be automatic only.

The 6.2 liter supercharged V8 will be carried over from the Hellcat. However, instead of 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, it may provide more. Keeping the tradition alive, not that long ago Dodge released a rather interesting image which showcased the 757 number. In the past, they showcased the 707 number which eventually turned out to be the engine’s output. If this happens again, then the 6.2-liter engine might end up with 757 horsepower and north of 700 lb-ft of torque. This would make it the most powerful muscle car once again, and it would become a real issue for most of its rivals. Thanks to the added power, beefier tires and all drag-aimed technologies, the SRT Demon might be one of the first production cars to run a 9-second quarter-mile pass which would be highly impressive.
