2017 Opel Zafira Specs

Crossover SUVs are tearing into the minivan market with gusto; minivan automakers have had to invest more on the designs and features of their minivan brands to keep them relevant in the changing market.  Despite this, GM is still going strong with their Opel Zafira MPV. The current model has been in the market for 5 years having been introduced in 2011. As such, the update couldn’t have come at a better time. The new 2017 Opel Zafira has received a bit of refresh both on its exterior profile as well as on the inside.

A unique blend of exceptional versatility and optimum comfort has characterized the Opel Zafira ever since the Rüsselsheim-based company revealed its revolutionary integrated seven-seat system in the compact van segment in 1999. Opel has sold around 2.7 million units of the Zafira since, mainly to families and professionals who need a spacious and flexible vehicle for travelling long distances in high comfort. Soon available for sale and delivered as of September, the new Zafira will not only shine with all of the well-known virtues of its predecessors such as the Flex7® seating system, ergonomically-certified AGR front seats, the FlexFix® bicycle carrier or FlexRide adaptive damping – it also comes with an attractive new exterior and interior design that emphasizes the spacious ambience and an outstanding connectivity offering. Latest generation Opel IntelliLink infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility along with Opel OnStar (including 4G/LTE Wi-Fi hotspot where available) make sure the Zafira offers optimum connectivity to you, your friends or family while on the road. Furthermore, Opel will introduce full LED Adaptive Forward Lighting headlamps to the segment – to make the classy new Zafira in total a comfortable travelling lounge for its driver as well as its passengers.

The updated 2017 Opel Zafira has been revealed this week, with a refreshed face that brings the MPV in line with the new Astra hatchback and other upcoming Opel and Vauxhall models. With GM’s local arm Holden looking to European-sourced models for at least one third of its line-up by 2020, the new Zafira could be a starter in Australia in the coming years to take on the likes of the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso and Kia Rondo.

2017 Opel Zafira Changes

The 2017 Zafira gains a new steering wheel and the company’s latest IntelliLink infotainment system complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Adding to the list of in-car tech is the Zafira’s 4G LTE Wifi hotspot, which can connect with up to seven mobile devices. Other updates for the refreshed people mover include Adaptive LED headlights, ‘Opel Eye’ front camera, high beam assist, traffic sign assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

Elsewhere, Opel engineers have once again followed Opel’s strategy of making innovative technology available to a broad group of buyers by introducing new Adaptive Forward Lighting LED headlamps. The new AFL LED system automatically adapts the lighting patterns of the headlamps to the driving situation so that the optimum light performance is given without dazzling other drivers. It features nine different functions/lighting patterns such as town light, country light, a curve and cornering function, backing-up maneuvering light, a stop mode light (eco) and tourist mode.

Furthermore, the new generation of the Opel Eye front camera has a positive impact on all the driver assistance functions it supports, including the High Beam Assist of the AFL LED lighting system and the Traffic Sign Assistant. Following Distance Indication (FDI) also utilizes the front camera to detect moving vehicles ahead, whereas Forward Collision Alert provides visible and audible caution alerts when the distance between the car and the vehicle ahead diminishes too quickly. Lane Departure Warning is activated automatically at speeds over 60 km/h and warns the driver, in case the lane is left unintentionally with a telltale in the instrument panel and an audible warning.

Everyone very much hope at the 2017 Opel Zafira release is better than the previous version. So we’ll review the interior, exterior and some other features of the new car in 2017 Opel Zafira. Hopefully review the specifications of this car, can help you in choosing your dream car.

The new infotainment system will support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This adds to the model’s 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot which supports up to 7 mobile devices. The model will also feature the new OnStar service.

For safety, rumor has it that the automaker has added a forward collision alert with imminent braking, lane keep assist with lane change warning as well as a Following Distance Indication system.

The model we captured doing testing was under camouflage and only little could be seen about its cabin. However, interior sources intimate that the Zafira will have a new dashboard with a modern layout. The center console and instrument panel has been redesigned. The new center console features a larger infotainment system screen with less buttons which results in a cleaner look.

A facelift in 2016 introduced some new front-end styling that echoes that of the Astra. Adaptive LED headlights and LED taillights are now optional, as well. Inside, you get a restyled dashboard with a new, relocated infotainment system complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Sat-nav is an optional extra on most trims.

The exterior profile features a number of upgrades. At the front, the model will have new headlights. It seems Opel has done away with the boomerang accenting which featured fog lights and turn signals in favor of the styling featured on the Corsa and Astra. The front bumper has also been slightly modified. The grille is also new. For the grille, Opel has replaced the honey-comb looking inserts with horizontal bars. The lower air dam has also been revised.

2017 Opel Zafira Release date

2017 Opel Zafira Engine

As of this writing, there has been no concrete information about the lineup of Zafira engines. From the rumors, the base model will be a 1.4 L. EcoFlex LPG capable of 138 hp. Another engine that will be on offer is a 1.6 L, 4-cylinder engine which is capable of 150 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. The base diesel engine is rumored to be a 1.6 L mill which produces 134 hp.

These are all rumors, but one thing is sure though, the model will come with many alternatives.  Currently, the Zafira is offered in 3 petrol engines, two diesel engines with the larger diesel mill further tuned into five different flavors.  The current model also offers an LPG as well as a CNG burning mill. All engines are 4-cylinder units and are transversely mounted.  I expect a similar lineup for the 2017 Opel Zafira.
