2017 Mazda 3 Review

Mazda has released new photos of the revised Mazda 3 compact sedan /hatchback for the 2017 model year. The 2017 Mazda 3 is sold as the Axela in native Japan. Many enthusiasts had hoped the automaker would bring back the Mazdaspeed3 but it seems that the automaker has no immediate intentions to revive the nameplate.

The facelifted and upgraded 2017 Mazda Mazda3 which has just gone on sale in Japan and Canada has been unveiled in U.S. trim during a special event at Mazda’s California headquarters. Due in showrooms this September, the updated compact sedan and hatch have a number of subtle cosmetic tweaks and new comfort/convenience items as well as Mazda’s new G-Vectoring Control system that we recently reviewed.

The 2017 Mazda 3 gets a variety of updates this year. Both the front and rear fascias are subtly restyled, while the interior has a new steering wheel, an updated dashboard design, added standard equipment, bigger door storage pockets and a new electronic parking brake (which frees up more center console space for storage). Mazda has also added G-Vectoring Control to the 3, which Mazda says can improve handling. A retuned suspension provides a smoother ride.

That doesn’t sound like much, but the 3 didn’t need much improvement in its current form, it has earned a spot on our 10Best Cars list for the past three years. Nonetheless, the changes for 2017 are welcome, especially the revised exterior that nicely sharpens the 3’s look. The reshaped grille and headlights present a slightly more aggressive face to the world, and LED headlights are newly available on higher-trim models. A new rear bumper appears a bit cleaner and crisper than before, at least on the pictured hatchback model (Mazda has yet to release photos of the U.S.-spec 2017 sedan).

The estimated price for the latest car 2017 Mazda 3 range between $19,380 – $26,330 based on the current dollar exchange rate. If there are changes in prices for car 2017 Mazda 3 we will notify you as soon as possible, so keep following the blog latestcarsuv.com.

The 2017 Mazda 3 should be right at the top of your list if you’re looking for a compact car that doesn’t feel cheap or entry-level. For the last several years, the Mazda 3 has been one of our favorite compact cars thanks to its upscale interior, fun-to-drive personality and easy-to-use infotainment controls. And this year, the Mazda 3 gets a host of small improvements, including an updated dashboard design and changes that Mazda says help improve both handling and ride comfort. The best, it appears, just keeps on getting better.

The most obvious changes to the 2017 Mazda3 are visible up front with the grille and headlamps redrawn to bring them more in line with the nose of the new CX-3 crossover while the lower fascia features a wider, sleeker look. The rear freshening is more understated, and brings a redesigned soft cap on 5-door models plus a more cleanly integrated valance panel. The latest version of this handsome Mazda compact also will offer optional full LED headlights and taillamps.

Practicality and versatility are still part of the Mazda 3’s repertoire, too. It is available as either a sedan or hatchback, so you can pick the hatchback if you need some added cargo-carrying capacity. And on the 3’s higher trim levels, Mazda offers some advanced features to choose from, such as adaptive cruise control, a recently updated (in color instead of monochrome) head-up display and a special i-Eloop package that helps boost fuel economy.

The only exterior difference between the sedan and the hatchback is their rear ends; the hatch features a trunk door while the sedan features a trunk-lid, otherwise they are identical. Compared to the 2016 models, the exterior of the Mazda 3 models look almost unchanged.

At the front, the new subtle changes include a new grille that features the Mazda emblem inside the grille unlike on the 2016 models where it overlaps the top part of the grille. The new grille also overlaps the air-dam. Mazda has also revised chrome inserts of the grille which now terminate at the inner edge of the headlamps. The grille also features larger horizontal louvers. The grille is flanked by revised headlights which feature a new LED strip design and LED DRLs that stretch towards the air dam. In addition, the new fog lamps look smaller.

The interior of the 2017 Mazda 3 has been one of the best in its class for several years, and this year it appears to have become even better. The cabin is full of high-quality panels, materials and switches, all of which are laid out in a logical and user-friendly manner. What’s more, the Mazda 3 feels upscale in its class thanks to features such as imitation-leather or leather upholstery standard on almost all models, a color head-up display, adaptive LED headlights and adaptive cruise control. Most of that stuff just isn’t offered on many of the Mazda 3’s competitors.

The new changes start with new inserts on the door panels and the dashboard. There is also a new bottom spoke steering wheel with a shiny finish. The side spokes of the steering wheel feature a sleeker button layout which is finished off by a chrome insert on each button panel.

The base Sport comes with 16-inch steel wheels, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, remote locking and unlocking, keyless ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen display with knob-based controller, Bluetooth connectivity, voice controls and a six-speaker audio system with two USB ports, an auxiliary input, HD radio and smartphone-enabled internet radio. Options for the Sport are packaged together in the Preferred Equipment package that adds 16-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, premium cloth upholstery, a rear-seat armrest, automatic headlights, automatic windshield wipers and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The instrument cluster is largely unchanged except for its cleaner appearance. The center console has however received a significant upgrade. There is a retractable lid over the storage area and cup holders and a larger cubby head of the gear shifter which was possible since the pop-out tray in the previous model has been deleted.

HVAC controls feature smaller knobs with a chrome finish. Enthusiasts will also love the new infotainment screen which has been revised to look more modern by the elimination of openings on the sides. The result is a screen that looks as if it is hovering above the dashboard.

The Grand Touring gets the Popular Equipment package equipment plus the aforementioned more powerful engine, LED foglights, a gloss-black grille insert, a digital speedometer, a head-up display and full leather upholstery. The Premium Equipment package adds adaptive LED headlights and daytime running lights, LED taillights, a heated steering wheel, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a navigation system. Also optional for the Grand Touring is the i-Activsense Safety Package, which adds a more capable forward collision warning and mitigation system, a lane departure warning and intervention system, automatic high-beam headlight control and adaptive cruise control. Separately, the i-Eloop package adds the i-Eloop energy recovery system and active grille shutters.

2017 Mazda 3 Engine

The second engine which powers the ‘s’ models is a 2.5 L, 4-cylinder mill rated at 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. This engine is EPA rated at 29 mpg on combined drives. Power will be channeled to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox with an option for a 6-speed automatic transmission system in both the sedans and hatchbacks.

There are no engine changes. The 2017 Mazda 3’s two engine choices remain a 155-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder on 3 i models and a 184-hp 2.5-liter inline-four on 3 s models. As before, either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission is available regardless of engine choice, something that can’t be said about many of the 3’s competitors, which limit manual-transmission availability to the basement models.

While the home-market version of the 2017 Mazda3 will be available with gasoline, diesel and hybrid powertrain choices as well as an AWD option, U.S. versions of the Mazda 3 will carry over with the existing front-drive configuration and 2.0-liter/155-horsepower or 2.4-liter/184-horse engines that can be paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions. We’ll know more about the 2017 Mazda3 lineup, including pricing and packaging specifics, closer its actual on-sale date.

The 2017 Mazda 3 is powered by one of two different engines. The first is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque.
