2017 Maserati Quattroporte

The 2017 Maserati Quattroporte sedan is one of the few luxurious sedans out there that can boast of matching the German-made luxury haulers that have quite a stranglehold on the luxury sedan market segment. The sedan has received an upgrade to make it remain fresh amid the tough competition.

Despite being a key element in Maserati’s recent global sales growth, the current, sixth-generation Maserati Quattroporte sedan was decidedly behind the curve when it debuted in 2013. It lagged German competitors in available technology, and its interior borrowed a few too many obvious bits of Chrysler switchgear for a six-figure Italian luxury car. Maserati is attempting to right these wrongs with an update for the 2017 model year.

The Maserati Quattroporte speaks to brave individuals who lead and refuse to follow. Building on the greatness of its past, the Quattroporte defines the ultimate grand-touring sedan of the future with a clear and authentic vision. Maserati invented the supersedan in 1963, challenging the status quo by putting a racing engine into an executive luxury sedan. Today’s Quattroporte offers scintillating performance in a car more beautiful, inviting and inspired than any other. The Quattroporte is the pinnacle of sporting luxury.

So we’ll review the interior, exterior and some other features of the new car in 2017 Maserati Quattroporte. Hopefully review the specifications of this car, can help you in choosing your dream car.

The exterior has been thoroughly worked on and looks stylish than ever. The front fascia features a new bumper and a modified honeycomb grille with a matte black finish. The lower part of the grille features bigger side vents.

The cabin has been upgraded with the latest technologies and comfort features. The dash has received a bigger, 8.4-inch touch-screen which displays information and controls of the infotainment system. The infotainment system itself has been upgraded to feature Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Those who seek even more exclusivity and ultimate luxury in their Quattroporte can choose the unrestrained opulence of the GranLusso trim, with an interior styled and appointed by the leading Italian fashion house of Ermenegildo Zegna. GranLusso exterior details impart an even more luxurious look to the Quattroporte design, featuring chrome bumper inserts and body-colored sideskirts, black brake calipers and elegant 20-inch Mercurio alloy wheels.

The Quattroporte GranSport wears more aggressive bodywork and optional carbon trim at the nose plus 21-inch wheels. Found inside are heavily bolstered seats and piano black interior trim that provides a more masculine look. The GranLusso incorporates a floating bridge element up front, side skirts, 20-inch wheels, and a color-matched rear spoiler.

It’s delivered the option of 10.2-inch LCD screens in the rear so the kids can watch either shared or unique content and they’ve thoughtfully delivered a remote control unit to drive it all, on the assumption that anybody who hasn’t played in the NBA won’t be able to reach the back of the front seats.

The system also comes with a new Air Quality Sensor which features an intelligent sensor as well as a signal analysis system that determines external air population levels and limits toxic gas and polluted air from gaining access to the cabin. The center console and center stack have also been revised. A new climate control with a much cleaner face has been added.

Unlike the outgoing model, the 2017 model features just five chrome slats on either side of the ‘trident’ emblem as opposed to the outgoing model’s 7 slats.  Hidden behind the slats is an electrically controlled Air Shutter which helps improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics. The slats are thicker and more angled which gives the front fascia an intimidating look. The GTS features lower air vents and separate side intakes.

2017 Maserati Quattroporte Engine

However, Maserati has increased its top speed slightly to 177.7 mph from 177 mph. This is courtesy of improved aerodynamics. The engine is offered in RWD but on the Quattroporte S Q4, the engine is offered in AWD.

The Maserati Quattroporte sees incremental updates for 2017, with the lineup featuring two new packages: GranSport and GranLusso. Power comes from a 410 horsepower, twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 or a 530 horsepower, twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8-powered GTS, either of which can be ordered with the new trim levels.

The second engine is a turbocharged diesel. The engine is a 3.0 L, V-6 which is capable of 271 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. This is the least potent and slowest of the Quattroporte models reaching 60 mph from standstill in 6.4 seconds. Its top speed has also increased slightly from 155.3 mph to 156.5 mph.

The most potent engine is placed on the range-topping Quattroporte GTS. The unit motivating this model is a 3.8 L, twin-turbo V-8 engine. This engine is also crafted by Ferrari. The engine is offered in RWD. It powers the model to rush to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and achieves a top speed of 192.6 mph from the previous 190.7 mph.

We didn’t have many complaints about the Quattroporte’s engines, so we’re not perturbed that the car’s V-6 and V-8 powertrains are unchanged. In the U.S., we’ll continue to get three models: the rear-wheel-drive S with a 404-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6; the S Q4 with the same engine and all-wheel drive; and the GTS with rear-wheel drive and a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine making 523 horsepower. As before, an eight-speed ZF automatic is standard across the range.

The strength of the V8 engine is obvious from the moment you find the mysteriously hidden start button, waking it up with threatening depth and constrained anger. Then you push the Sport button and the exhaust valves open up to give the engine its full voice. Its turbochargers don’t follow the trend to nestle within the hot vee, but they still manage to be properly responsive at every point in the rev range. Unlike most of the big German motors, this V8 is significantly oversquare, which makes it feel like it wants to rev and rev and it always feels like a bit of a surprise when the limiter kicks in and the auto changes to the next cog.
